Environmental analysis and investigations to understand and manage the territory
Soil and subsoil characterization, post-spill assessments, inspections of excavated soil and rock, and technical support for area remediation and redevelopment processes.
Areas of investigation and intervention
From field surveys to the characterization of contaminated areas, activities are defined by considering the site's history, its intended use, and the technical or environmental purposes of the investigation.
Soil and subsoil
Sampling, core sampling, and chemical analysis are used to determine the characteristics of the matrices, identify any contaminants, and reconstruct their distribution in the examined area.
Excavated soil and rocks
Analytical characterization and technical support to verify the environmental quality of materials and define their correct management in accordance with applicable regulations.
Contaminated sites
Investigations and monitoring aimed at reconstructing the origin, nature, and extent of contamination in the soil, subsoil, and groundwater.
Accidental spills
Sampling and analytical checks to assess the effects of the spill, identify the matrices involved, and support the definition of subsequent interventions.
Industrial areas and reconversions
Environmental assessments of production sites, whether abandoned or slated for urban redevelopment, to verify the condition of the matrices prior to new interventions or changes in use.
Reclamation plans
Technical support in defining remediation plans, feasibility studies, and evaluating the most suitable solutions for the site's characteristics.
A soil does not tell its story from a single sample.
Contamination is rarely uniform: it can concentrate at depth, follow the movement of groundwater, or remain confined to areas where certain activities have taken place.
For this reason, an effective investigation begins with the site’s history. Production processes, tanks, underground networks, depots, accidents, and previous uses help identify possible sources and determine where to search, at what depth, and which substances to consider.
Site inspections, core sampling, and analysis therefore allow us to reconstruct the distribution of contamination in the soil and subsoil. When necessary, the assessment also includes groundwater, because pollutants can move from their source and affect different matrices.
The results are compared with the values expected for the specific intended use of the site. Exceeding the threshold concentrations does not automatically indicate that an area is contaminated, but rather indicates the need to further investigate the situation through characterization and subsequent assessments required by the procedure.
The choice of parameters arises from the objective of the investigation: to verify well water, monitor an aquifer, classify a discharge, or check the functioning of a purification plant.
Sampling activities, field measurements, and subsequent chemical determinations allow us to reconstruct a coherent framework that can be used in environmental and management assessments.
The factors that guide the investigation
Activities carried out on the site
The past or current presence of underground plants, depots, tanks, and networks helps identify possible sources and the substances to be searched for.
Geology and stratigraphy
The composition of the soil and the succession of layers influence the behavior of contaminants and the depth at which controls must be carried out.
Presence of the aquifer
The depth and direction of groundwater are crucial for assessing the possible migration of contamination beyond the area where it originated.
Destination of the area
The references change based on the intended use of the site, for example industrial, commercial, residential or intended for public and private greenery.
From characterization to intervention choices
The analysis results do not conclude the investigation: they serve to reconstruct the environmental framework of the site, distinguish affected areas from those not affected, and assess whether further investigations, monitoring activities, or on-site interventions are necessary.
Eurolab complements its analytical activities with on-site inspections, feasibility studies, specific audits, technical consulting, and administrative appraisals. This support can continue through the preparation of remediation plans, the evaluation of applicable solutions, and final inspections.
This approach allows us to support companies and professionals in projects for the redevelopment of industrial or residential areas, transforming the information collected into a technical basis that can be used to plan interventions and communicate with the relevant authorities.
Analytical services verify compliance with regulatory requirements, identify potential contamination, and support companies, public bodies, and managers in assessing the quality of water resources. Thanks to reliable methods, dedicated instruments, and qualified personnel, Eurolab guarantees accurate, traceable results that are useful for monitoring, preventing, and managing various water-related issues.
